Inventory Of Hazardous Materials Survey(IHM)
Interational Conference on Safe and Environmental Ship Demolishing held by the IMO adopted the Hong Kong Convention on Safe and Environmental Ship Demolishing 2009(Hong Kong Convention). It aims to ensure that ships do not pose unnecessary risks to human health, safety,and environmental pollution when they are taken up for dismantling after the end of their operations., Hong Kong Convention seeks to properly manage hazardous materials on board. Hong Kong Convention focuses on the issues related to shipping dismantling. The Convention came into effect on June 26, 2025.Hong Kong Convention focuses on the issues related to shipping dismantling including environmental hazardous such as Asbestos, Heavy metals and Ozone-depleting substances that may be contained during ship dismanling. It also raises concerns about the related work and environmental conditions in many ship dismantling plants all over the world.

According to EU Regulation 1257/2013, the installation and use of hazardous materials listed in Annex 1 on ships calling at or operating in the ports of EU member states were prohibited as of December 31, 2018. Port state control officers will conduct detailed inspections of ships, and any issues such as the absence of certificates, invalid certificates, expired certificates, or failure to update IHM reports in a timely manner may result in detention,denial of port entry, or prolonged lay-up of the ship, causing significant economic losses to the shipowner.
DMS has obtained recognition from classes including ABS, CCS, DN, NK, BV, KR, LR, IRS, RINA,and RS, as well as flag state approvals from the Marshall Islands, Liberia, and St. Kitts and Nevis, enabling it to conduct IHM survey and maintenance.
